A developmentally appropriate kindergarten is like a good home, where children can learn through play, cooking, watching, listening, acting, reading/pretend reading and writing/pretend writing. ~ Dorothy P. Hall & Elaine Wiliams, The Teacher's Guide to Building Blocks ~
We are 100 Days Smarter!!
100 BALLOONS -- yes, that's how we started our day!! SO much fun!! I have never had a class that just walked in the classroom, saw 100 balloons and didn't immediately go crazy. This group had to be prompted to PLAY with the balloons, then they just calmly walked through slightly moving them with their feet. As you can see in our pictures, they eventually cut loose and had a good ole time!! Our day was filled with lots of giggles, laughter, and fun -- we were loud and messy -- but that is some serious kindergarten learning!!
December & January
December and January are always such busy months! December is full of holiday games, book sponsor books, reindeer hats, Christmas tree decorating, cookies and ornament making. January brings learning about penguins, Martin Luther King Jr and Kansas Day, extending our counting by counting collections larger than 20 and crazy sock day!! We work hard on our reading and math skills because it seems the most growth happens during this 3rd quarter. Enjoy a few pictures looking back at some of the fun times we had in kindergarten during December and January. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with your amazing children!
Lots of science fun this month with our Force, Motion and Engineering Unit. We created a Thankful Pumpkin, turkeys, enjoyed social group with Mrs. Frank, participated in some modified literacy stations and so much more! It was a great month!
50Th Day of School
I am so HAPPY we made it to Day 50!! When the year started we weren't sure how long in-person learning would last -- this teacher is super excited we made it to the 50 mark!! So we celebrated! Please enjoy these pictures of our 50's Celebration, our STEM Bat Flight and a Storywalk on the playground sponsored by the Alma Library. Thank you for allowing me to work with your little one -- they are growing and learning more and more each day!
